John,
Sorry to hear that. Do you get a grey screen with "You need to restart your computer" first? If so, can you collect the kernel panic logs?
Unfortunately I don't have any machines that I can readily run Yosemite on (the only Mac I currently have is my "production" machine, and I really would prefer not to run a beta OS on it), so until Yosemite goes final, I'm not sure I'll be able to reproduce this.

Maybe virtualbox can virtualize yosemite from another OS for easier debugging? It definitely does older OS versions from newer (although for that you need to mask the cpuid instruction for the processor to be recognized, I would expect that not to be a problem for newer versions of the OS).
I will try later and report.
thanks,
I actually don't get a kernel panic.. the screen just sort of flashes to black then I need to kill the power, it's pretty strange. I can generally get it to happen if I open network preferences then toggle usb tethering on and off on my phone.
thanks again, john On Aug 4, 2014 2:37 AM, "Jisakiel" notifications@github.com wrote:

Wow, that's really weird! I'm not sure how that can happen.
Jisakiel, let me know if you manage to repro in Virtualbox?

Looks like a use-after-free -- looks like Yosemite just added a checker for that. This is going to be tough to track down. I'll stare at it more and see if I missed anything last time.
I actually get a kernel panic, grey screen and all, as soon as I connect my phone to my Mac with Yosemite and HorNDIS installed. The computer was just reimaged a few days ago with 10.8, then updated straight to 10.9 and then 10.10 public beta.
Mid-2012 MacBook Air, Nexus 5.
@moeffju: Can you get a panic dump from /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports?
Having the same problem. First it seemed to be the backburner (Autodesk) server, then a Wacom driver. Uninstalled both, happened anyway.
This time it happened after I engaged USB tethering, just as I switched the connection mode from media device (MTP) to camera (PTP).

Ok. It looks like I really am going to have to install 10.10 myself in order to track this down. One day...
Thanks for the reports.
Bumping priority, since 10.10 is final now.
Crash fixed in 8dc1a58. Functionality restored in a36c63f , but I don't have a very good root cause yet. I think I may have ripped out enough hair for this issue, though, and will divert my remaining weekend HoRNDIS time to #27 :-)
Hopefully I'll spin a new release tomorrow night.
Was unable to get internet sharing working on the Beaglebone black on 10.10 while teaching a workshop today using the latest rel7.
@AdamMagaluk, what version of the driver are you using? Can you try installing rel7 and rebooting?
Thanks, joshua
Ah yes, forgot to mention that. We did try rel7.
Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Ok, I'll try and look at this sometime this week. Can you attach a panic log, in the mean time? Should be in /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.
10.10 here yesterday after upgrading to rel7 tried again with my nexus7 2013 running 4.4.4 i saw a few messages in dmesg, but no interface in both ifconfig or network utility did have any kernel panic nor no log left in /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.

@FernandoMiguel That looks like the driver is working fine... it looks like it's gotten an IP address, and appears to be connected as en2?
what you are reading there is the BT tethering... not usb. i never got any active connection from USB tether
Hi,
I recently installed HoRNDIS rel7 to allow SSHing into my Intel Edison board via USB and it crashes several times a day.
I'm on OSX Yosemite, late 2013 MBP. The report I get when my computer restarts is slightly different:

I've pulled the same KP Report, below:
Has anyone figured this one out yet? I'm not a developer and know just enough to be dangerous with my Air. Sadly, I'm starting to learn far too much about log reports and troubleshooting. Started with an incremental slow speed page loading on all browsers. Then thought it could be caused by the 30" display, CPU load and graphics card. Ditched the screen for a 27" lower res after doing a PRAM. Ran the Disk Utility and repair which reported a corrupt disk and suggested reloading the systems (Thankfully, I was backing up every step of the way).
Finally succumb to my incompetence and spent 2 hours yesterday at the Genius Bar... Sadly again, I was talking over the Genius' head. (A notably proud yet discouraging moment for me.) We were successful in doing a few diagnostics and firstaid repairs which resulted in a clean bill of health. Shortly thereafter, I fired up my machine again to get the 1st KP report, below.
I peeled it off and shot it to my GDrive then stepped away from it for the night. Looking at it this morning it looks like the FTDIUSB driver is likely to be a primary source. Coincidentally, it had not been connecting to the new Pro Mini AT328 5V.
Recently, we started working on Arduino's and Android apps. So, the developer apps were loaded onto this machine. I've been working in Serial, Arduino and Android Studio (though I don't really know what I'm doing). Not to mention downloading all of the Github clones and other miscellaneous Arduino/Android related stuff. This includes, downloading both versions of the FTDI drivers. The earlier version was the only one that worked with RFDuino's.
Today I'm going to blow the FTDI drivers off of here, as well as all of the Arduino and Android apps and files. I am considering reverting back to the previous OS too, since it seems to have FAR fewer issues.
Another couple of things I noticed is that I had the Search.Installmac. Adware on my system. went to: http://www.thesafemac.com/arg/ I used the AdwareMedic to remove the virus
Finally, again, knowing only enough to be dangerous, I noticed that it looked like the system was doing call-backs, frickin botnets! I'm just reading about iWorm: http://www.thesafemac.com/dr-web-announces-new-iworm-malware/ Don't know where that will lead, so wish me luck.
My ask is if you guys could please lend a hand by helping me NOT screw things up. :) Many thanks in advance and Merry Christmas to everyone.

I did repro a panic once the other day, but unfortunately, I don't really have the bandwidth right now to track this down.
@JBirdie: It looks like that kernel panic is in the FTDI driver, not the HoRNDIS driver. Do you also have a panic log from HoRNDIS?
@JBirdie the FTDI driver has historically been problematic enough that Apple introduced their own implementation in 10.9. Please see https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/technotes/tn2315/_index.html.
I stumbled upon a way to reproduce the issue on my MBP over the weekend. 10.10 with rel7, connecting to a BeagleBone Black (rev C if that matters).
I have multiple network locations defined on my Mac (it's a dropdown at the top of the Network Preferences window). I installed HoRNDIS using network location A, and everything was fine. Skip ahead a few days and I try to connect the BBB again, only this time I'm using network location B. The BBB's drive mounts, but I can't SSH to it or hit the webserver on it, and the network adapter on the Mac doesn't show up in ifconfig. or network preferences.
Since I didn't see the BBB adapter in Network Preferences, I tried to add it and configure it manually. I tried this three different times (using DHCP, DHCP with manual address, and static IP), and every time I got the black screen of death when I clicked "Apply".
Edit: somewhere in all of this (e.g. after the first black screen of death, while I was still trying to troubleshoot), I tried various combinations of uninstalling HoRNDIS/FTDI driver, reinstalling, disabling Apple's kext, and rebooting. Nothing seemed to help.
After about the third time, I noticed I was using network location B. I switched back to location A and the network adapter appeared, and I was able to connect to the BBB (ssh and HTTP) with no issue.
I had similar problems yesterday evening after installing the FTDI driver and HorNDIS rely to remote into my BeagleBone Black. Has anyone tried just using installing HorNDIS rel7, relying only the Mac FTDI driver mentioned above?
Feb 8 Edit: I tried using the FTDI driver Apple supplies with my Arduino, but that didn't even upload a sketch, so I again installed the latest FTDI driver from ftdichip.com (v_2_2_18) following these instructions: http://www.mommosoft.com/blog/2014/10/24/ftdi-chip-and-os-x-10-10/
It seems to work okay for the most part, although my computer did crash when working with an esp8266. At any rate, I installed Horndis-rel7 just now and was able to remote in, but when I tried to share my Internet connection it crashed my computer. Here's the error message:

dude, your software cause kernel panics on yosemite and in my situation i wasnt even able to boot in safe mode.
When running Yosemite, frequently when I toggle USB tethering my computer turns off. Not sure if there's any more info I can provide or if this is a known issue.
Thanks, John
