Xoptfoil2 does not open #11

Open Lordakos opened 1 week ago

Hi! I am trying to run Xoptfoil2 on my computer however I cannot make it open. I extracted all onto my desktop and try to run it. When I do so I get the "Windows protected yoour PC" message and after clicking on "Run anyway" nothing happens. I have tried it on 2 different computers one Windows 11 and one with Windows 10 and both does the same. Am I doing it wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

... did you just double click on 'Xoptfoil2' in the explorer? If yes, then probably everything is fine: As Xoptfoil2 is a command shell program it is started and immediately finished because the input file is missing. What happens, if you double click on one of the example batch files ('make.bat')? (see also: https://jxjo.github.io/Xoptfoil2/docs/getting_started )

Best regards

Jochen

I have indeed tried multiple of the included examples and all did this . I have tried it on a third computer and interestingly it worked there. Does Xoptfoil2 require Python or other dependencies?

... if you open a command shell, change directory to the installation directory and run 'Xoptfoil2' - what does then happen?

Lordakos commented 1 week ago

Absolutely nothing. I can immediately write a new command, no error message or anything

jxjo commented 1 week ago

... could you please post a screenshot of the command shell where you enter 'Xoptfoil2"?

Screenshot (92) Here you are

... this is strange.

It seems, Xoptfoil2 need admin rights (little admin icon in program icon) Could you run the command shell 'as administrator' and try again?

Lordakos commented 1 week ago

Screenshot (93) This seems to be working so Ill have to do this every time? because even if I run one of your examples as admin from the windows GUI it doesnt work. Screenshot (94)

... ah - step by step ...

Could you check:

In explorer, right click on 'Xoptfoil2', select 'properties', select the 'compatibility' tab - and uncheck this check box ...
