I believe the issue here is that the slideshow uses Flash and Flash makes sure that it displays above anything on an actual webpage. Redoing the slideshow using Javascript would nullify this issue. We might be able to strap this together fairly quickly with the jCarousel module which has Views integration. http://drupal.org/project/jcarousel
