Either migrate only useful comments at the bottom of the posts and follow a no-comments policy, or
Use Disqus, I don't like the idea though (proprietary, will be tied to it, probably involves as much work as above in connecting posts correctly to their discussion threads)

Went with Disqus approach, cf: 17ff37b1b5160289717ef05131df12c4a6912791

Comments migrated from the wordpress.com blog, techglider blog ones remain.
