Have the same issue, though EVERY time!

Using newest xbmc from the official git reposity.
ICS Custom rom for my Desire HD

The issue though is independend of my android device or app. actually it is
because it seems current xbmc is missing this special remote control support. i
can connect from my pc via browser and see the webinterface.

though this url (the same is xbmc calling):
http://http://192.168.1.11:9000/xbmcCmds/xbmcHttp?command=GetSystemInfo(120)
gives a file not found, which is causing the java io exception.

Note: i tried to change xbmc port to 9000 to see if it was the reason.

using xbmc via a browser works fine though.

analysis is pretty much what I suspect too.

Same issue over here. The error showed up a few days ago in git. I'm using the
OpenElec builds on my Raspberry Pi. As remote I'm using a Galaxy Note with CM10
and a Galaxy S3 with default Samsung ROM.

From the Rasbmc site:

Note that if you’re using an Android or iOS remote, some may not work, as the
HTTP API is now deprecated in XBMC. You can revert your build via Raspbmc
Settings though.

Not sure if it help the devs, but there it is :-)

Same problem here ? any other android remote working with raspberry xbmc ?

Same problem here but hopefully a version that only relies on json rpc is just
around the corner. Just a pity that RC5 was such a mess to the point where I
had to reinstall from scratch and no longer have the option to revert back to
the previous happy build (without doing another reinstall).

The only app for Android I have found that still works (as of today with the
very latest version of raspbmc/xbmc) is this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.berard.xbmcremotebeta&hl=en

The remote is a bit rubbish but browsing TV and Movies works just fine.
Straight back to this once it's fixed again.

I found the "remote" feature of android xbmc app still working with RC 5.
RC5 on the other hand fails often ..

I really can't understand why such a severe error like using a deprecated API
is only classified as a medium priority. This BREAKS functionality on ALL new
builds of XBMC. Please fix this.

i guess nobody is developing anymore. since december 2011 no defect was
accepted.
thats why this defect still has medium priority, it's default!
maybe we should start a branch ourselves?

I use Yatse - http://yatse.leetzone.org/redmine/projects/androidwidget

It works perfectly as a remote and much more.

+1 to Yatse!
Seems to work fine (the remote part at least - I haven't tried other features)
and it is actually better than the official remote app -
http://yatse.leetzone.org/redmine/projects/androidwidget
I am using a Samsung Galaxy S3 and Raspberry Pi with OpenELEC

Yatse is a good value.

Anyway, the bug on the official app has been fixed with the last update
(yesterday).
