update to 10.6.3 failure #240

Dell Mini 10v. I used software update to update mac os to 10.6.3 after running
installer 0.8.4 rc1.
This is on a fresh install of 10.6 with netbookmaker 0.8.4 as well. Upon
restart, got message that
something in the mac os update had failed. Upon reboot, computer would just
cycle between blue
screen and default screen saver background thing infinitely. Had to start all
over and install 10.6 off
of usb stick again and am now wondering whether I should bother trying to
update to 10.6.3 at all.

With 0.8.4 done, should I be able to run 10.6.3 on this dell mini 10v? Had no
problems with 10.6.2
for the last few months.

I had same issue but was able to resolve by doing the following:

Boot into safe mode by holding down the "shift" key after power on, then when
you see the drive image, press
the "tab" key and enter boot option "-x" with no quotes.

After you get to the safe mode login screen enter your admin password for OS X.
On my unit there was a long
period of latency before I was able to see my keystrokes and select "login"
icon.

Once at the OS X desktop go to "Finder", "Applications", and run
"NetbookInstaller". In NetbookInstaller I left
the default options checked and just pressed the "Install" button. Once
complete I rebooted and the unit now
correctly boots into OS X 10.6.3.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

-x did not fix this for me on my Dell Mini 10v. I never see more than the login
desktop backgroud show up and then quickly disappear back to the solid blue
background. My next step is to remove the drive and run NBI 0.8.4 RC1 on it
from
another Dell Mini.

I have a similar experience. Made a clean install of Snow Leopard 10.6 with
NetbookBootMaker 0.8.4 RC1. Installation took approx 1 hour and was very smooth.
Everything worked.

Tried to uppgrade to 10.6.3 via the automatic update. Installation failed. NBI
Logo
showed up for 10 minutes. Now, when booting, I reach the OSX background and
then it
seems to get stuck in an infinite loop. I see the shadow of the finders
magnifying
glass up in the right corner. Then cursor becomes the colored one, the
magnifying
glass disapears and the cursor becomes an arrow. Then this repeats over and
over for
an hour before I shut the computer of, and of course boots into kernel panic.

I try to boot on USB stick, and install NBI, but still kernel panic so I
reinstall
version 10.6 and dont know if I dare to uppgrade again? Many people have
succeeded,
am I doing something wrong here...?

Dell Mini v10, 1GB Ram, 160GB HD, 1.6GHz, A06 bios version.

I had the same issue, the kernel panic on boot.
It was strange though, because I could have sworn after I updated to 10.6.3 I
ran
NBI...

Anyways, the method Texas.Shields mentioned worked perfectly for me, thanks.

Tried upgrading my other dell mini 10v to 10.6.3. No problem at all. This is
an older
dell mini with bios version A00 and screen resolution 1024x576.

Same problem as nodogma and mattias, same system configuration as mattias.
10.6.4 and 10.6.3 updates fail the same. Stuck in a loop.

You all are thinking to mutch just when chameleon bootloader arives type:
recovery=y or recover=y one of the 2 and it will run NBI again and hopla!!
Running again.
