Bluetooth not available after waking from sleep #247

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Reboot, then observe that Bluetooth is available via top bluetooth menu.
Then logout and
close lid to sleep.
2. Open the lid to wake, then observe that the bluetooth menu icon looks
different, and when
clicked says "not available" in grey.
3. Restart, login, and observe that Bluetooth is OK (full Bluetooth menu
exists)

What netbook are you using this on?

Dell mini 10v, Dell bluetooth card, 10.6.3, 0.8.4rc1

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Bluetooth seems to not wake after sleep. I don't remember that this was a
problem with
10.6.2/0.8.3

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.

I did not experience any issues when upgrading to 0.8.4rc1 and 10.6.3. This
seems to be it.

hmm... This problem seems to be intermittent. After waking from sleep,
Bluetooth is there. More often than not,
Bluetooth is not there after sleep, but this proves that it isn't always that
way. Probably something more subtle
going on.

On my Mini 10v, Bluetooth works every time at startup. If I put it to sleep,
wake it and do not touch anything
for about 5 seconds, my bluetooth goes from unavailable to working perfectly.
However if I click (or tap) the
trackpad or the Bluetooth mouse I'm using during that 5 seconds as the computer
wakes, before the icon
returns to normal, it will stay unavailable (squiggly line) until a full
restart. I can type a novel on the keyboard
while the computer wakes but the bluetooth will always come back, it only stays
unavailable when the
trackpad or mouse is touched. It takes about the same time for the wifi
(airport) to "wake up" but the wifi
never becomes unavailable no matter what is typed or clicked. I hope this
description of my problem is helpful
to you guys. Many, many thanks for your work on this and if there is anything I
can do to help (test?) let me
know. Thanks again!

I was unable to reproduce the behavior described by palooko, but I don't have a
bluetooth mouse. I did some testing with just the keyboard and trackpad, but I
couldn't reproduce it. Does it still happen without the bluetooth mouse?

Yes. It happens whether the bluetooth is connected to something or not.

Bump, same issue to a T, except I'm running a Dell Mini 9, with stock internal
Bluetooth from Dell, Bluetooth Mighty Mouse from Apple, and Snow Leopard(fully
up-to-date, as of today). The description above matches EXACTLY my experience,
close
lid/sleep from menu, wake> Bluetooth: Not Available until WIFI finds signal, if
I
touch or use bluetooth device before it switches to enabled, it never comes back
until a restart.

Fixed with the bluetooth terminal mod, can toggle BT on/off and always appears
again after sleep

Confirmed that bluetooth terminal mod fixes BT toogle issue in 10.6.x. Make
sure to run NBI after making the mod and then reboot. When searching for where
to make the mod, search for 37A and change the values.

One thing I noticed is that after fix, I had many phantom BT devices in the BT
system preferences. You are able to delete each one but they return after you
but the computer to sleep and back again.
