"Still waiting for root device" after upgrading to 10.6.3 with a Windows 7 dual boot #263

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(The actual process to dual boot is straightforward, but would take a while
to type out completely. It involves making the drive GPT through Windows,
then installing Snow Leopard, then Windows 7, then reinstalling Chameleon
and fixing Windows 7's boot, then making SL/Chameleon the active partition.)

1. Install Snow Leopard and Windows 7 in a dual-boot setup with Chameleon
and NBI .8.4 RC1.
2. Upgrade to 10.6.3 using Software Update and the combo update.

What netbook are you using this on?

Asus 1005HA.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expect to see the Netbook Installer logo and have it run for 5-10
minutes, like everyone at MyDellMini says. Instead...

Upon reboot, the Apple logo will appear. No kernel panic, but a spinning
wheel goes for about two minutes before the circle with line through it
appears. With -v on the boot, it shows that it's waiting for volume (lots
of numbers). "Still waiting for root device" shows twice.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

I'm using the absolute latest .8.4 RC1 on Snow Leopard.

Please provide any additional information below.

I have heard one other person state that dual booting breaks the kernel
patching etc. I'm also on the 1005HA, which normally works quite well, but
NBI always hangs on the DSDT.aml creation, so I have yet to patch.

Booting with recovery=y still works.

These are the two offending lines:
"Waiting for boot volume with UUID..."
Waiting on <dict ID="0"><key>IOProviderClass</key><string
ID="1">IOResources</string><key>IOResourceMatch</key><string
ID="2">boot-uuid-media</string></dict>

I can boot with both -x and recovery=y. When I booted with -x, I
got a loading bar that went a third of the way and then disappeared. In another
minute or so I got the login screen which took a minute to be responsive. After
logging in, it was mostly identical to recovery=y.

I repaired permissions and it found most of my kexts to be incorrectly
permission'd.
Unfortunately it didn’t make a different.

So, there’s a kext or something that Recovery Mode is loading that I’m not.

This unfortunately has not helped.

Same issue for me after dual boot. Win7 is loading fine. Trying to get into SL
causes "Still Waiting for root device". As curlycarlos states, recovery mode
works for me however my touchpad and keyboard don't load.

!!~ However, if I boot from the usb I installed with, it loads like normal. How
is this possible? ~!!

I'm thinking that maybe the Win7 install somehow added files to the EFI. I'm
going to go wipe the partition with GParted and reinstall EFI with the
HPMini1000 EFI Auto Setup.

HP MINI 1000 running 10.6.3
*I never ran NBI, got away with NBM and HP MINI Auto EFI. I think I tried NBI
on a previous install but it caused a lot of things to not function anymore.
