10.6.5 Update Won't Boot. #311

After reading that 10.6.5 update was okay, performed update on Dell Mini 10.
After reboot, saw Netbook Installer Icon, and it showed while booting for a
very long time. Then system restarted and I get apple and twirling wait
inidcator but system never boots or panics. Left it go for 3 hours and no
change.

I tried SHIFT and then TAB and then -X and saw the apple logo and a loading bar
underneath, tyhen it just went back to Apple with twirl.

Trying to boot off of USB OSX install disk, I saw something about "could not
patch 64-bit" and then same thing. Now, it gives me panic screen with
UNSUPPORTED CPU (will look for that fix.)

Tried booting with RECOVERY=Y and it will not start for me to run netbook
installer.

Can't boot of USB install disk, even trying recovery=y with it selected.

Says:

Panic(cpu 0 caller 0x1b58d8ac): "Unsupported CPU: family...." etc.

Okay, after then trying to boot recovery=y off internal hard drive, for some
reason this time it worked. I will run netbook installer then see if it fixes
it.

Okay, performed the removal of the unneeded graphics extensions as worked on
the 10.6.4 update, reran NetbookInstaller 0.8.4 RC1 and restarted.

It worked... Hmm, how do I self close this?

Hold the phone... Lost my wireless networking...

Okay, rerunning NetbookInstaller does not fix the networking kill. It says no
airport card installed. Also, I can't reinstall from the USB OSX install as it
says the "Patch 64-Bit" then panics to "unsupported CPU".

Yup, reinstalled completely and 10.6.5 kills Dell Mini 10 networking. Even
after running Netbook Installer.

Got it cured. You need to use DROPBOX version from Meklort's WEB SITE...

Upgrading my Samsung N310 to 10.6.5 results in a kernel panic, then next reboot
works. Audio is killed, Bluetooth is killed. Re-installing kexts via
KextHelper and rebooting doesn't help with audio nor with Bluetooth on 10.6.5.

Running the Dropbox version of Netbook Installer on the N310 running 10.6.5
results in a system which won't boot normally due to kernel panic. Using the
recovery=y flag allows the system to boot to the login screen, and while the
trackpad can move the mouse cursor, the N310 will no longer accept keyboard
input, nor will it allow the trackpad or trackpad button to click the mouse.

Plugging in a USB keyboard results in a message that the keyboard type must be
identified by the user to work in OSX, but since one can't click the 'Continue'
button on the wizard nor get the N310 to accept the <Enter> key on the built-in
keyboard, this is a nonstarter.

After trying various iterations involving AppleHDA.kext,
BroadcomBluetooth.kext, NBI options, et. al., I've given up on 10.6.5 for now
and restored a 10.6.4 pre-upgrade backup. I'm anxious to get on 10.6.5 because
of all the security fixes, and would appreciate any clue/insight into getting
10.6.5 working on a Samsung N310 with audio and Bluetooth working, as they do
under 10.6.4.

Thanks!

I'm using a Samsung nf210. The only way i could boot was with usb boot disk or
by typing in arch=i386 recovery=y. I edited the com.apple.boot.plist by
putting arch=i386 between the >< under where it says kernel flags. Then i went
to Go-Go to Folder-typed in /extra. Then i found the folder with all the kexts
in it, right clicked copied that folder (mine was called GeneralExtensions) and
pasted it to Desktop. I then renamed it to Extensions and copied it back to
extra folder, deleted the extension folder from the desktop and restarted
machine. My touchpad and webcam stopped working but all else is well. When i
get them working i'll post.

update for nf210. I deleted the nv kexts in the S/L/E folder, repaired
permissions and rebooted touchpad now works. webcam works for facetime but not
with photobooth. still working on wireless. temporarily using a dlink usb
nano until i get my wireless going.osx drivers for the dlink can easily be
downloaded.
