How do I boot up with "recovery=y" #314

Sorry for this newbie question, but I have looked many places and can't find an 
answer:

How do I boot up in a way that I could type commands (such as "recovery=y")?

Answered my own question: Hold down the Shift key and boot. When the grey 
screen appears with the Apple icon, simply start typing... Found the answer at
