bottom microswitch gets caught on track joists #2

the lever of the microswitch dangles too low and gets caught.

two possible solutions

  1. remove the lever and hopefully the switch itself can slide over the track lumps
  2. redesign tracks so they have a smooth track for the microswitch to roll on where currently it's just a hole

simplest solution is the track one.

another possible temporary solution - add some weight to the front of the bot.

more long-term solutions:

  1. reduce height of bot in total so centre of balance is lower
  2. invert the syringe mechanism so the motor is closer to the centre of the bot horizontally and vertically

I think solution 2 here is the right one.

solution 1 can be worked on when next redesigning the transport layer

after further thinking, there are two further causes

  1. the bottom switch is in the exact middle between the two wheel axles. this means the switch can be closer to the track sometimes when the wheels are on a gradient. so another possible long-term solution is to redesign the motor chassis so the switch is directly below an axle.
  2. microswitch levers can be loose, so may droop down away from the button. a mitigation for this might be to somehow block the lever from coming away from the button.

solution 1 will definitely fix the problem. solution 2 will not, but may be necessary to solve other potential issues.

I've redesigned the riser track to get rid of the centre joists.

the switch will still catch on the top joist, though

kaeverens commented 3 years ago

ok - and a little mitigation until I can redesign the vehicle layer...

I'll print this one out and try it

the ramp works. I needed to shave a little off the neighbouring track to make it smooth, so the ramp needs to be raised a little to cover that in future (done)
