chrome-toolbox uninstalls self across synced computers, breaks occasionally

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Have several computers you have chrome signed in to your google account
2. Enable extension syncing

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
chrome-toolbox should sync between my chrome installs and work.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, once or twice a week it will 
uninstall itself and I'll have to install it again.

Today, it was installed on my work Win7 PC but totally non-functional (see 
attached screenshot).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Win7, Win8, Linux

Disabling and re-enabling the extension fixed the broken screenshot. I still 
have problems with it uninstalling itself and not syncing across computers.

This might be related to hiding the button. I only use this extension for the 
scroll-switches-tabs functionality; showing the button does nothing for me so I 
hide it. Sometimes it unhides itself.
