It turns out we do have some data points from outside the continental US. For example, two points from Survey 11 show up in Alaska, if you pan the map over to it.
Currently, I have the zoom set so that you can't zoom farther out beyond the default map view. That means you can't zoom out to see Alaska. I'm hesitant to change the map view to include Alaska (and, presumably, Hawaii), because that would make the rest of the country so small. We'll also probably have very few points from either of those states. But still, it seems weird to exclude them entirely.
On the other hand, in interpolation mode we only show the continental United States. So maybe we should just be consistent?
