Support for PowerPC-based Macs #67

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

Does the Mac version of the Desktop Notifier only work on Intel-based Macs?

If so, there is no mention of this limitation on the project Summary or via a
Search.

I try to install this on a G5 PowerPC-based Mac running Leopard and when I open
the DMG file it overlays the 'MacDroidNotifier' app with teh increasingly
common 'no' symbol. If I then copy it to Applications and run it, I get the
expected "...not supported on this architecture" error.

Is there any chance of a universal binary package?

Hmmm interesting, I didn't think anyone would still be using those with how
much Apple pushes for upgrades :)

Anyway, yes, I can add support for PowerPC if you're using OSX 10.5 or above (I
think 10.6 doesn't support the G5) - I already use a universal binary, just
didn't include the powerpc targets.

I'm attaching a powerpc-enabled build here, can you test it and let me know if
it works as you expect? (it's a more recent version that the last release
though, so expect some incomplete features) Also keep in mind that Growl is
32-bit only on the PPC, so unless I rebuilt the Growl framework (not worth it),
the app itself will run as 32-bit on your G5.

Just tried the PPC version on my G4 Mac Mini on 10.5.8 and it appears to be
running OK at the moment.

Nice :) I'm marking this as fixed - the next release of the app will include
PPC support.

Came to request this as well; might want to add this file to the download
section, heh. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has relegated my PPC mac
the "everything else" category.
