Heyho!

I've been looking all over for an offline-first, Whisper-based Android transcription app for private Journaling. Imagine the happy-dance when I found your app! ;)

Use-case is AOSP ROM with no Google Services, therefore Speech-To-Text (esp. privacy a friendly STT) takes some effort.

I have been trying your app for a bit. Here's a feature wishlist in order of perceived priority:

I'd love for you not to abandon the app (yet) and consider implementing some of these things. I'll happily send a ko.fi or Amazon voucher your way or make a donation in your name(s) if that helps to motivate you further to provide the AOSP community with a working, privacy-friendly & offline-capable Journaling transcription app. <3

wish i saw these comments sooner! @bilalazhar72 depending on what version of android you're running, you may not be able to find the app on the play store (or it may not work on your device). you could try the play store link directly?

@technopagan thanks for your feedback! i just picked this project back up (because in my own usage of my own app i realized i needed a whole bunch of things fixed lol). so stay tuned for updates :D

about the stuff you said:

  1. deletable journal entries - yeah there's a lot i should fix on the QoL of the journal stuff, that's definitely high on my own priority list too.

  2. remove Internet permission from the app - in an ideal world, i would have no internet permissions in the app. however, we live in the world where i bet most people using the app won't actually do that, and it would be a huge pain for them to set up. so i doubt i will actually be removing that one, unfortunately. i do plan on adding additional customizability (e.g. loading your own custom model), and the benefit of this project being open-source is that people can validate that i indeed don't do anything with their audio files, transcripts, etc. i will consider this (e.g. maybe the network permission isn't added by default, you separately enable it, and otherwise load your own model), though i admit it will be a fairly low priority as the other features/bugfixes are gonna come first

  3. audio + transcripts in system folder - yep, i want this too, im working on it. personally i want my transcripts to go straight into my obsidian vault, haha

  4. fix darkmode - yeah idk wtf happened with dark/light mode, it worked fine in testing but then completely broke on release for some reason. i suspect it's an issue with my theming plugin. will have to do a lot of fiddling to solve that one

update: journal entries are now deletable, and audio + transcripts now have a system option on android (not iOS, sadly). i should have it built and on the play store soon :)
