Converting docs to md files so we can use RTD

Could you link README.md to docs/index.md and remove the other stuff?

@RobLoach yeah, I'm unsure how to handle that. It's good to have some basic 'get up and running' tips on the github page so I'm unsure what to remove. Perhaps we can discuss at stand up. I will at the link at the bottom for now.
