- Calculations:
- A place to show long-form calculations, so the experimenter can double-check the work and be confident that they're doing the right thing.
- Some examples:
serial: Show concentration after each dilution.pcr: Show how annealing temperature is calculated. This value is often inferred behind many layers of indirection, so it'd be valuable to show where it comes from.
Right now, protocols that feel the need to warn the user about something print a message to stderr. However, I'm starting to think that it would be better for these warnings to get recorded in the lab notebook. Towards that end, I'm thinking of adding a "Warnings" section to protocols. These warnings would behave much like footnotes, but would appear at the beginning of the protocol (and would maybe be highlighted somehow, depending on the formatter).
