Feature Request: Change to Date-Range Filtering

What steps will reproduce the problem?
N/A

What is the expected output?
I would like to have the option of using a pop-up div with two datepickers to 
select my date range. The value can then be stored in a single text field 
within the filter area instead of having to have two text fields in the filter 
area.

What do you see instead?
Currently when using date-range, two text fields are added to the filter area 
and each one has a datepicker.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.4.7 Windows 7

Please provide any additional information below.
Goal of change is to minimize the visual change to the present GUI. It can be 
difficult to incorporate two text fields in a single table column when that 
column is set to a width of 75px.
