I'm on Gnome shell on Arch Linux. The problem here is that when you close the app, it hides to the tray, but on Gnome shell there is no system tray. There's no way to reopen the app, and the only way to close it fully is to kill the process.
You could probably just set a shortcut for it. (see the options menu item)
