Is there any rationale for this?  I'm just curious because it might be too much 
work 
for what might be an unnecessary change.

It makes SQLite easier to use, but I am pushing it back because I'd rather get
everything working with how we have it now and then try to transition than to 
try
transitioning while things are still so buggy.
