Compiling source files directly into iOS application requires modified BuildingTheLibrary instructions (patch attached)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Following the verbatim instructions in [1] leads to several compile-time 
errors

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Following the slightly modified instructions (see attachment) does not. I've 
tried this with the Calendar service.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

latest code base from svn, Xcode 5.0.2, OS X 10.9

Please provide any additional information below.
