hi larry,

it's possible and is supported by scim framework. but i am afraid that this
feature
is of low priority compared to issue#17, which basically renders the input
method
unusable.

Just stumbled onto this thread. It seems that many of us have this same issue
(pretty much all foreigners in Taiwan). I don't know if it's the most graceful
solution, but if one doesn't need to "switch" back and forth, and just wants to
type traditional Chinese characters efficiently, then playing with the data
files in the src/data directory worked for me.

I used the unicode cedict dictionary to map the simplified characters in the
src/data directory (the rawdict frequency file and valid_utf16 file) to the
traditional equivalents. I'm sure cconv or other tools could accomplish the
same thing. Re-compiled. Now I'm happily typing away in scim-googlepinyin and
traditional characters. I'm happy to provide the replacement files if anyone
needs them.

I used scim-pinyin for a long time, with the SCIM simplified-traditional
translation feature enabled. But this is a less than optimal solution. The
phrase intelligence available with simplified characters is completely absent
after enabling the traditional character translation. One just has to enter
phrases manually, and after time, you slowly (and I mean slowly) build up a
user dictionary of useful phrases.

Hi jhodow, can u pls provide me the files and further details on how to change
the ubuntu scim into trad. chinese input?
Else, do we have any methods for user to enter certain frequently used, but
unavailable phrases in the google-pinyin dictionary?
