I'm sorry, please excuse my ignorance... I am trying to get a login portal working with AD/LDAP, and do not wish to use Radius.

Can this code be on a separate server as the controller? And would you set this up as a hotspot portal, or how does it sit inline with the controller?

Yes, you can use this on a separate server. You just have to set the unifi server location correct in the configuration. It would be set up as an external hotspot configuration.
