why was this abandoned?
There were several problems in atom-terminal not being fixed, and pull requests not being accepted. The atom-terminus package contains multiple project root support along with other improvements. I recommend you try it out.

Currently, with multiple project roots, if I execute open-project-root, a new terminal opens for every project root. This commit changes this behavior so only the project root of the currently active file is opened.
