bible install language selection fails #194

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. open andBible
2. Click menu-More
3. Click download Documents

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
- An update of the download-locations
- A list of available downloads, selectable on language
Instead I do not see a list of languages, but an empty box on the left of the
screen. The box on the right contains the usual items: Bible, commentary etc.
If I click on the language box, a single-line field opens, with nothing within
it. I suppose this should contain a language list.
The result is that I can install nothing new.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
This behavior is also present on my daughters phone. We use AndBible from
13-7-2013; on Android 4.0.3 and 4.1.2.

Please provide any additional information below.

I have not seen this behaviour before. When in the Download Documents screen
can you select Menu/Refresh.

Also can you tell me what language your mobile is set to in both your mobile
phones Settings and in And Bible Settings? Which country are you in?

Have you successfully downloaded any documents before or are these new
installs? Have you just upgraded And Bible?

I live in The Netherlands.
Android language is Dutch
AndBible tried in Dutch and English.

Before I downloaded Dutch Statenvertaling (12 jan; dutsvv, incl Matthew Henry,
etc)a book of AW Pink (21 march) and Calvin commentary (01 may) without trouble
(date taken from date stamp in file manager). About a month ago I noticed the
download problem, but didn't pay attention to it. Today I installed from the
Play Store the program on the new phone of my daughter, but was not able to
proceed with text download.

I have tried to move the recent download-databases (I don't know the name, but
it seems to be a list of download-locations, with one file (mods.d.tar.gz) in a
long-named map) in the files folder of the And-Bible folder, but it is replaced
as soon as I try a download.

I have AndBible automatically updated, therefore my version will be the same of
my daughters.
Thanks in advance for your help; hopefully you can help me. If not, I will try
to copy the whole Files-folder from my phone to my dauhter, and see what
happens.

Hi,

Today I uninstalled And Bible from my wife's tablet and did a complete
reinstall without any problems.

Could it be that the download url is being blocked by your isp or router - it
may be classified as Religious or something like that. You may like to try
connecting to another router with a different ISP. This might also explain why
both you and your daughter cannot download Bibles.

If you are desperate and just want to install a Bible manually then manual
install of documents is explained here:
https://code.google.com/p/and-bible/wiki/FAQ#Can_I_manually_add_modules/document
s_to_And_Bible?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. As soon as possible I will try another provider, and
give you feedback. However, this can take about two weeks. Maybe earlier, if I
can communicate this with my provider.
Via my provider, I am able to reach www.crosswire.org and xiphos.org.

Back from holydays, and problem solved.

This has not been an error in your program, but indeed a block from the
provider. They have kindly checked their settings, and from their mail I
learned that they blocked a download-url from Russia. After adjustment of their
filtering rules, updating works perfectly.

Thanks for your assistance, and best wishes for your good work.
