Cannot reference GoogleApis in a console application #415

I'm building a console application, targetting .NET 2.0.
I add the GoogleApis project to my solution, all is fine.
Then I try to reference it, and get this error message:

Unable to add a reference to project 'GoogleApis'. The current project does not 
support references to Portable Library projects.

First of all, what the hell is this?
Secondly, how to fix or workaround?
