Issue: Depletion of IPv4 addresses since 2015 have required enterprises to begin implementing access to IPv6 addresses through their network. Without the proper network hardware, IPv6 network connections will be unable to connect to IPv4 network structures.
Solution: The proposed solution is to create an IPv6 parallel infrastructure with Layer 3 routers that link the existing VLAN software. The VLAN technology will “overlay” the IPv6 links onto the existing IPv4 configuration.
Figure 1 provides a diagram on how an IPv4 enterprise network receives IPv4 and IPv6 transmissions. Figure 2 provides a diagram on how to design a parallel infrastructure to allow for IPv6 transmissions.
