phototest.tif not recognized correctly #17

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

Version 1.03 builds on MacOSX 10.4.x (PPC), but calling

./tesseract phototest.tif out

I see just garbage in out.txt. Not a single character is properly recognized.

Excuse the random contribution, but I have seen something similar on Fedora
core 6
when trying to link against the external libtiff library.

Not much to go on in your report, but just as a stab in the dark guess, try
running
configure with libtiff disabled, rebuild it and say if it helps. For example:

./configure --without-libtiff
make

Yes, configuring --without-libtiff it works.

I can also confirm seeing this when building on Edgy. Plenty of garbage, and
not one
word of English. This would suggest libtiff (or the way it is being used) is
mangling
an uncompressed file.
However, I also tried using convert to convert it to a bmp, and to a new file
using
RLE compression, and saw exactly the same behaviour.
