Images constantly download, stealing focus from chat entry textbox

Seems mildly intermittent - occurs for ~90% of logins on one particular 
environment, which is an important client environment.

When a chat is started, two images (the images displayed around the chat tab) 
seem to take a long time (2-5s)downloading. When they have downloaded, the chat 
window takes focus away from whatever had it before and the images start 
downloading again ad infinitum.

This makes the chat app essentially unusable, as halfway through typing a 
message focus shifts from the message input box to the whole window, so 
everything you type will be interpreted as a browser shortcut key (eg. 
backspace = back in history)
