Africa Rangeland Watch (ARW) was designed and developed by Conservation International (CI) and is aimed at monitoring rangeland impact. ARW empowers users to quantify land-use and climate impacts on rangelands over time and space, based on remotely sensed satellite imagery supplemented by ground-based rangeland monitoring.
Notes from meeting with client that informed the Interactive map.
need to be able to choose polygons on the map to do spatial analysis and also draw a polygon on the map.
for baseline analysis, the user should be able to set the baseline time period (2010 -> 2023) the is an average all the indicators shown in a table.
for temporal addition, we need a monthly option resolution as well as quarterly and yearly
-variable (indicator and new one is BACI)
The raster outputs for temporal analysis is the indicator clipped to the polygons. when comparing two time periods it would be useful to have a slider on the interactive map to view the two different indicators for the two different time periods.
he new feature allows the comparison of multiple time periods for the indicator not just 2
The indicator is clipped to the polygon
Spacial analysis
we need to have a reference polygon (either selected or drawn) and one or multiple comparison polygons.
The reference polygon is critical as the indicator average in this polygon is compared to the average in the selected comparison polygons.
the indicator raster shown is likely the indicator of the last 30 days (the needed image) but we need to check the code.
map visualization for the dashboard the reference and comparison polygons with the indicators clipped to them and labeled with the average value.
chart bar graph of percentage difference
ref and comparison polygons have different colour outlines based on type if ref or comparison and they are labeled with their average indicator value value
BACI (likely to be its new indicator) note we will only get BACI calculation end December
