Switch to using map proxy backend #186

Open gubuntu opened 7 years ago

gubuntu commented 7 years ago

From @gubuntu on March 15, 2017 11:34

Switch to using map proxy backend. Map proxy provides a way to cache tile requests from the user so that maps render more quickly and there is lower server load. There is some upstream work being done to add native MapProxy support to GeoNode. However it is not clear which of the two concurrent efforts will be merged. We will investigate this and if there is a clear winner integrate with that. Should it become clear that no upstream integration of MapProxy will take place, we will introduce MapProxy support into our docker / rancher based deployment configuration. Only for QGIS server backend

I guess this will replace the @Gustry in-house django map-proxy that is currently building the tile cache?

@Gustry please close if this has been superseded by your metatiling work.

Gustry commented 6 years ago

The metatiling has never been finished

can you give a timeline @Gustry (or an alternative recommendation?)
