According to this report:

collection sorting is changed when upgrading from 2.0.13 to 2.0.16

anamardoll: what happens when you add a new collection on the device itself, 
using v2.0.13? Does it end up at the end of the list, or is it sorted 
alphabetically?

I just did a quick test with v2.0.13, and new collections are added in their 
logical, alphabetical place. I'm kind of at a loss here...

Not using setup.exe might make a difference

I tried with 2.0.13 custom build, 2.0.13 setup.exe, and 2.0.13v2 update. No 
difference.

I only created collections on IM though, perhaps that makes a difference?

All my collection data comes from Calibre.

could you compress and send us content of your /database/cache folder? 
(warning: this would reveal to us what you're reading)

there are special, sorting related fields in metadata (titleSorter).

Thanks kartu, but I thought that affected the sorting of books only?

Ana: my collection data comes from Calibre as well, so I'm thinking your 
Calibre and mine are configured differently. Other than that, I'm no closer to 
finding the cause unfortunately.
