Since this is still very young in the project's history, I think there isn't much of a problem doing a rebase. The reason: the previous glyph-brush-layout integration adds several MB of fonts that we may not need, and in retrospect I think direct integration may have been the wrong approach. The previous code will live in the gbl-integration branch for now.
This PR picks a couple of commits from that branch and revises the API surface.
