External FireWire CD drive freezing #254

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Open XLD
2.Load CD
3.select metadata
4. Click Extract
5. FireWire CD drive flashes twice, then nothing, and the progress page stays
blank with the curser as a spinning disc.

How about the reproducibility (always, sometimes, rarely, ...)?
On occasion it will extract a CD if I do not add any meta data.
I can eventually get the CD to extract if I follow a strict procedure. I first have to extract the whole CD without adding any meta data, I then delete the extracted data-less files.
then add meta data and click extract, and then cancel as soon as the first
track starts to rip to confirm it works.
Then switch off Bluetooth, to reduce as much interference as possible. Then
click extract and the CD will extract sometimes, but not always.
However next time I want to extract another CD, I have to go through this
process again, sometimes several times before it will extract with meta data
and Bluetooth off.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Nothing, the extraction process freezes before the first track. There is
nothing on the progress page its just blank and frozen immediately, without
showing any tracks.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using the latest version of XLD, on OS X Mavericks. I never had this issue
before upgrading to Mavericks.

Please provide any additional information below.
I have tried resetting SMC and pram. I have also repaired permissions.
This problem only occurs when using XLD. I can extract a CD with iTunes every
time, but want to use XLD.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)
Thank you very much for your time

Hello, thank you for your quick reply.
Unfortunately, I am heavily disabled (paralysed from the neck down) and require
a lot of assistance from my carer. She is having a break, so taking a
screenshot is a little difficult. But I can recall any of the Settings if you
like?
But as soon as she is available I will take a screenshot of the preferences
page, but could you tell me if you would just like a screenshot of the CD rip
preferences tab? Or any others?
Thanks

If you have a difficulty just reporting a status of "Use C2 error pointers"
setting will help.

Hi,

Tried again today, worked once then keeps freezing again, tried 50 odd times
grr!
Worked flawlessly in mountain lion.
Not sure if I mentioned. I'm using a Lacie D2 xl bd drive connected by firewire
to g-tech G-raid HDD which connects to Mac mini by firewire.

Hi,
Ok, I think I might have found the problem. I have changed the ripper mode
setting from XLD secure ripper, to CD paranoia ripper. My first test is in
progress, but it isn't frozen and ripping properly, so far. I will try a
another CD after this one to be sure.
Does anyone have any ideas why the XLD secure ripper setting could make the app
freeze immediately when the progress page appears. This never happened once in
mountain lion.
Thanks

Yes second cd working. Looks like the xld secure ripper is the cause of my
problem, but why?

Hello,

Thanks for the download, I have been testing it all afternoon and it seems to
be working perfectly.
Is it an older version?
Anyway, all I can say is thank you very much for your help. You have fixed my
problem and I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciate your help :-)
Thanks tmkkmac

No, it is the latest development version. XLD secure ripper read hundreds of
sectors per one low level drive access, but your drive on Mavericks seems to
dislike it. The new version only reads up to 10 sectors at once.

The fix will be included in the next update.
