it looks like the link key written to disk does nothing and the real link public key is a transformation from the ed25519 identity... but i'd have to look at the source code to be sure. i hate this behavior... we should just never ever transform between edwards and montgomery because fuck that shit. we need all the keys to be written to disk so it's less confusing. damnit.
