I think I have narrowed the cause of the issue to the overlay. The attached
file is a modification of 20130414-02 but with all the overlay disabled; it was
been very stable for me.
If it is also stable for everybody else, I will try to find the real cause of
the issue.
Thanks.

Same for me, New user of 400Plus.
Used first time at a party, taking 300+ of RAW images. camera locked up under normal use 5-7 times in the session. All needing battery pull.
It locked up during Shooting and playback. I'll do some more testing tonight.

Mine also crashed with 20130414-01 and 20130414-02. Currently using previously
attached version. Tested with about 50 photos and no crashes since.
Before these I used 20120415-17 which also crashed time to time when opening
card door or when changing the CF card.

I can add that from my experience you see the random lockups when you attache
the external flash 580ex II as i did test without the flash 300-400 shots
without an issue but with the flash after several short when you play with the
preview menu the camera will start locking up on you randomly and the only way
to get out of a lockout is to get the battery out.

Attached file restores the overlay information, but adds a small delay when
certain conditions meet; it seems to be working for me.

Must confess I did not expect to fix the issues with the flash... But if you
could reproduce the issue before, and it works now, this would be fantastic!

I have just updated release 20130414-03, that contains the same fix as on
comment #9 here; and it also updates Russian translation, by the way.
If there are no new reports of lock-ups, I will close the issue; thanks.

My Camera also locks up with the updated release 20130414-03.
It happens less often with 20130414-03 as with 20130414-01.
Today the camera didn't respond two times. (I have taken 25 photos today)

I still have not found how to fix this issue, and I am afraid I will not have
much time to spend on this in the short term. I have just released 20130414-04,
that completely disables all overlay information, so at least we have some
version that works. I hope to come back to this issue someday.

I did not use any new "official" release but AUTOEXEC.BIN attached to this
ticket in about 2000 additional shoots in holiday and it did not crash not even
once.

#17:
There are two AUTOEXEC.BIN files attached to this issue: one in post #2 and the
other in post #9; which one did you test? I'm very interested to know which one
did work for you; thanks!
And just for your information, the one in post #2 was released as 20130414-04,
and the one in post #9 as 20130414-03 (yes, in inverse order).
