Choose any flash sync speeds in AV mode (custom function) #70

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

Please, describe the enhancement of feature requested below:

If we can choose any flash sync speeds in AV mode (instead of only 1/200 sec
(fixed)), that'll be helpful in low light condition with flash.

And can we have 1/250-1/60 sec Auto as in canon 50D custom function?

Thanks,

Isn't this the same as custom function C.Fn-3?

It is an improvement for C.Fn-3. C.Fn-3 only allow us to choos Auto (1/250-30s)
or 1/200s (fixed).

It'll be better if we can choose any other flash sync speeds so we'll control
flash better in low light. The back ground will be less dark if we choose flash
sync speeds less than 1/200s.

About adding 1/250-1/60s auto, this will help to prevent hand shake
automatically with flash in low light.

Thanks,

Sorry, but I still do not get it: you are using Av mode, and that means that
the shutter speed is selected by the camera, automatically; if you want to
select both the shutter speed and the aperture, you should be using M mode.

It should be easier with an example:
1. Taking picture with brighter background and darker subject in AV mode
2. Light metering the background gives shutter speed 1/60 and aperture f8
3. Keep above aperture and take picture for the subject with flash to make the
subject brighter
4. when taking subject picture, light meter gives shutter speed 1/30 at f8. The
background becomes darker.
5. If flash sync speeds in AV mode can be set to 1/60 (fixed), shutter speed
taking subject picture will be automatically set to 1/60. The background will
be fully bright.

Hope this help to make things clear.

Thanks,

I think I understand now: you do not want to set a FIXED shutter speed, but a
LIMITED RANGE for the shutter speed.. at least, that is the manual for the 50D
says about this.

You're partly right :D.

Limited range 1/200-1/60 will help to prevent handshake. In step 4 (limited
range is set), if light meter gives shutter speed for the subject less than
1/60 (handshake may happen), shutter speed will be set to 1/60 automatically.
If light meter gives shutter speed in limited range (1/250-1/60), no thing will
be changed. If ligt meter gives shutter speed over 1/200, shutter speed will be
set to 1/200 automatically.

Fixed shutter speed will also help a lot. If light meter gives shutter speed
1/30 for subject, 1/120 for background and flash sync speed is set to 1/120
(fixed), shutter will be set to 1/120 automatically (the subject will be fully
exposed by flash and the background will be also fully exposed). Without fixed
shutter speed (limited range is set), shutter speed will be set to 1/60
automatically (the subject will be fullly exposed and the background will be
over exposed 1 stop)

I made a mistake in previuos example, in step 4, the background will becomes
brighter instead of darker. Sorry for this.
