This branch is a general cleanup branch, since Python 3 support required a lot of cleanup, anyway.

maybe skip all that noise and do it with six module

Before merge should be tested in Python 2, as well. ;D

Tests never exit, as if something is still running? Like, it tells me it passes, but I have to ctrl+c out of py.test...
