I really don't like it in the way it has been implemented in er9x you know...

I don't really like it either. Too easy to select another model by mistake...

For advanced boards, I will implement it with a Menu displayed at startup. But
there is not enough flash on stock board for that!

Is there really a point in making a menu appear at startup, when all it takes
to get to the usual model select menu is one keypress a second later?

Yes, it avoid starting pulses on a wrong model!

Why not an optional checkbox like "Show model selection at startup" then you
can show the existing model menu if checked.
In most case you can press menu to confirm you want to fly your previous model
because it would be already selected like it is today.

@bertrand: Makes sense indeed!
@julie: sounds good too. If that option is on, or maybe a certain key
is pressed at power up, skip starting pulses and jump right to the
existing model select screen. Shouldn't use too much flash...

+1 the idea of menu option to show model selection at start-up (before
activating PPM)

NOTE: We must remember to skip this step for WDT resets.

I don't like the idea as implemented in er9x, and I will avoid on stock board
as well, on advanced MB maybe it can be a compile time option.
BTW the risk of sending pulses to the wrong model should not exist, first you
power on radio, then you power on model. This is the first rule for safety,

Forgetting to turn off a model is perhaps the more common problem.
(Marginally?) If humans were safe by nature, we probably wouldn't be capable of
excitement. :-P

will this availabe for stock board with atmega 128 also? It looks like a cool
enhancement. and another step towards safety..
Thanks

Interesting. It is NOT supported on the G9X board -- for SAFETY reasons. I want
to keep it that way (for G9X).

I think he meant the "jumping to the model select screen without starting
pulses", not the er9x implementation.

Yeah ... and I should have re-read the earlier posts, as I was quite out of
context. Apologies.
The idea of having a model select screen at power-up has some merit, I think.
Though personally, I would never use it.
I agree with Romolo re safety (whilst acknowledging the comment about humans
and excitement.) Personally, I feel that too many automatic safety "reminders"
like those discussed above -- which don't actually stop something going wrong,
but merely change the circumstances -- work against us humans, by ultimately
making us safety-lazy. Of course, the entire issue of human and safety is a
complex issue.
I do however wish that my helicopter ESC's had the feature that my planes do,
where the motor starts beeping merely when the transmitter is turned off before
the receiver. Helicopters especially would benefit from such a, "you crazy
idiot!!" warning alarm sound. Ah well.
