transfer parameters from radio to radio #167

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
it would be interesting to be able to transfer a radio in the other model
parameters directly on the flying field using a cable RxD / TxD TTL (HE10
connector programming or mini-DIN).

First transferring a radio Open9x to a radio Open9x, then transferring another
radio that has already this feature (such as radios Thobois) to a radio Open9x.

Excellent idea! But why not using the trainer cable?

Trainer cable would be convenient for sure.

The problem is that EEPROM format evolves over time. A simple transfer function
would be simple enough to implement without taking too much memory, but it
would only work if both radios have the same open9x EEPROM version.
Implementing on the fly conversion would likely come up being huge. Not even
talking about translating models from other radios, that's a task that would be
better suited to companion9x on the PC, where the very strict resource
limitations of the 9x don't apply.

I know that not everyone has this but the new sound board can already be
updated through a serial cable.. It was already tested (By the developer only
at this time) the connection with the sound module and the SD Card. when this
feature is fully working it will be possible to access/store models directly
from/to the Sound module's SD Card. Don't know if it would be possible to then
connect the 2 radios via serial connection.. Maybe we wouls still need a
computer in between :o

Above it should read: "the connection between the sound module's SD Card and
the m64/128"

instead of:

"the connection with the sound module and the SD Card"

SORRY

I think François (who is in the same club than me) will not like having the
computer at the field. I will implement it with the trainer cable.

As both of us have the '128 mod, the conversions should not be a problem - only
a matter of time ;)

Trainer cable is much better, as it doesn't require any mods.

Yes, The trainer cable is a good idea.. I don't think that from radio to radio
with the sound card would be possible without a computer anyway.. it is good to
update the SD Card and program the board, but thinking better maybe it wouldn't
work for what is requested here.
But I suppose the radios would have to have the same chip? at least the same
eeprom version, right?

I have in mind to setup a negociation between the 2 Tx. If one of the 2 Tx is
an Atmega128 or above, it is able to convert the data on the fly (either on
emission or reception)
