It is planed to provide this support. At least WebDAV in read-only mode should
be soon. Write support is much more complicated.

At the moment there are two interesting plugins for documents in Redmine, yours
and another one called Signo-Net-redmine_cmis-f836bfe for CMIS. It would be
very interensting if have this two plugins integrated in one only plugin.
This would allow for example to store the structures of folders and documents
in a CMS like Alfresco, to lauch full text searches against Alfresco using
CMIS, to link documents from different pages inside Redmine..
I think the integration would be very easy. I have studied both plugins and I
think it would take not a lot of time for you, who knows your plugin
development to do it, as the cmis plugin is very easy to understand.

By the way, Alfresco could provide the online edition via webdav or CIFS
