Reaver wifi crack doesn't work...

So I'm new to hacking, and am trying to use Reaver to crack a WPS enabled WiFi 
pass-code. I'm using Backtrack 5 32-bit with Gnome, installed on a newly made 
USB start-up disk. My first issue was when I opened the WICD network manager. I 
got an error message that said "Could not connect to wicd's D-Bus interface.  
Check the wicd log for error messages". I ignored the message and continued. 
First I ran the apt-get update, so I should be using the newest version of 
Reaver. Next, I typed the following in to the terminal:

The "Waiting for beacon" message just stayed there for about 6 hours, when I 
eventually assumed it wasn't working and gave up. I have tried this same 
process multiple times, and received different errors. One time the Reaver

It seamed to be working at first, yet it continued switching mon0 to diffrent 
channels for multiple days before I gave up. I need help with this wifi crack. 
I'm not sure what all of thees error messages mean, or how I can fix them. If 
anyone knows, please help me!

Also, every time I finished attempting the wifi crack, I re-opened WICD, and no 
wireless networks were found, when before I tried the crack, I showed several.

try add parameters in Reaver -a -S -N -c <channel>

Where do I add the parameters? Is it after the BSSID? Before or after the -vv? 
Also do I add all of those parameters at once, or do I try one at a time?

Do I actually type "channel" into the brackets, or do I enter the channel 
number of the network I'm trying to crack?
