As I am going through all the docker installation steps I'd be happy to help review the docker part.
That would be great! Thanks.
Done. See https://github.com/Det-Kongelige-Bibliotek/MerMEId/blob/master/trunk/INSTALL.md and https://github.com/Det-Kongelige-Bibliotek/MerMEId/blob/master/trunk/USING_DOCKER.md The third option mentioned above is not in use any more; updating the docker container with a new editor.war is fairly easy now.
Instead of having one installation manual describing several alternative approaches I suggest splitting it up into two or three separate documents for greater clarity: 1) 'Traditional' installation involving building a WAR file, 2) Same, using Docker for much of the process, and possibly 3) Installation without building a WAR file, allowing manual changes to individual files (the way we have it installed on our development server). This set-up is very convenient for development, customization and testing. @siglun: Would that make sense?
