5.4.5 Dimming Performance Curves for Luminaires, Daylightng Control Type Options #360

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What NACM Section(s) are relevant to this issue?

5.4.5 Descriptors: Minimum Dimming Power Fraction, Minimum Dimming Light
Fraction, Daylighting Control Type

Explanation of issue:

1. The values for the minimum power fraction and the minimum light fraction
appear to be reversed - lighting efficacy should likely decrease when the
lights are dimmed.

2. For Daylighting Control Type - is the Stepped Switching control supported by
the ACM? (It is supported by EnergyPlus.) For stepped switching, the dimming
power fraction would equal the dimming light fraction.

Proposed resolution:

1. Verify if values for the two building descriptor lists need to be swapped
with each other, and update ACM as needed.

2. Add Stepped Switching control if it should be supported.

Please provide any additional information below.

Final language for item #1 to be determined, but the plan is to revise the
Dimming Light Power Fraction is to include the following table:

Light Source Power Fraction Light output Fraction
LED 0.1 0.1
Fluorescent 0.2 0.2
Mercury Vapor 0.3 0.2
Metal Halide 0.45 0.2
High Pressure sodium 0.4 0.2
CFL 0.4 0.2
Incandescent 0.5 0.2

Issue #2: Not sure about this one - if we support this, then the number of
lamps or dimming characteristics will also need to be specified.

Regarding # 1.
The updated list above includes luminare types not present in the original and
also not present in the updated list of space heat gain fractions. The new
luminaire types are:

Mercury Vapor
High Pressure Sodium

Please confirm whether these are to be added to the list of luminaire type
enumerations. If so we will also need to update the Light Heat Gain
distribution table to include these luminaire types (See issue 110).

Regarding #2
From an E+ point of view, the only inputs to the Stepped Switching control are:
  # of steps
  frac of lights controlled
These are already represented in the SDD.

We should discuss this second issue further - I just re-reviewed the E+ I/O ref
and it looks like E+ ONLY supports stepped switching (not stepped dimming).
I've got a note in to Rob Hitchcock (copied here) to verify.

Closing issue - Luke, please let me know if there are any issues with the
current ACM language, thanks.
