Interior Lighting for residential dwelling units #776

What 90.1 PRM Section(s) are relevant to this issue?
3.4.3 Interior Lighting Power Allowance

Explanation of issue:
This section and Appendix 3.4A doesn't appear to explicitly indicate the LPA
for (residential) dwelling units. More fundamentally, what would be the correct
SpaceFunction for a dwelling unit, i.e. an apartment in a multifamily or mixed
use building?

Proposed resolution:

1. Dwelling units are exempt from 90.1 2010 lighting requirements, when using
the space-by-space method. LPD for dwelling units = proposed building.
2. space function for dwelling unit would be an apartment in a multi-family
building.
I will attach an updated Appendix 3.4A to issue 777.

Added sections to PRM document-
Under 9.4.3 Interior Lighting : Non Regulated Interior Lighting Power-
In accordance to 90.1 2010, section 9.1.1 lighting requirements are applicable
to
- interior spaces of buildings
- exterior building features, including facades, illuminated roofs,
architectural features, entrances, exits, loading docks, and illuminated
canopies
- exterior building grounds lighting provided through the building’s
electrical service
Exceptions:
1. emergency lighting that is automatically off during normal building operation
2. lighting within dwelling units
3. lighting that is specifically designated as required by a health or life
safety statute, ordinance, or regulation
4. decorative gas lighting systems

How does a user specify a 'Mixed use' building SpaceFunction? I do not see that
in the NACM SpaceFunction list.

No, currently CBECC does not support the T24 'Complete Building Method', which
is analogous to 90.1 'Building Area Method'.

I would suggest not using 'Apartment' as the SpaceFunction for this
application, as it may be confusing for people doing 'Condominium' or other
ownership/leasing arrangements.

How about 'Multifamily Unit' or 'Residential Unit'? 'Dwelling Unit' would be
OK, I think, if it was assumed to also include sleeping units, which are
defined in the IBC, but not in 90.1.

Ok- i understand that part now.

I believe we addressed the space function discussion under Issue 777.
