Unmet load hours for baseline lab systems #839

A user sent a model (saved in the Google Drive, issue tracker files directory)
which has unmet cooling load hours in the 900-1100 range in three lab spaces.
He original message:

"I have a quick question about modeling laboratory with 100% outside air and
hoping you can shed some lights. I modeled the lab spaces with its own air
system and an exhaust of 10 ACH. I kept getting many unmet clg hours (~1000)
for the lab spaces so the building won’t comply. Is there’s a rule of
thumbs (or guide) for modeling spaces with 100% OAT? Also, is there a way to
see the HVACs energy consumption without completing the analysis [the log file
says the model PASS the compliance but there was an error message: “In
Standard model, 3 zones(s) exceed maximum cooling unmet load hours (150)”]?"

This is a known issue that we discussed about 2 weeks ago. KB and I are still
troubleshooting this; initial indications are that there is a E+ bug that
contributes to the problem. We are investigating possible fixs/work-arounds,
hope to have more information early next week.

Sent to user: The unmet load hours issue is on the baseline (Standard Design)
model, and is the result of a bug that is being actively investigated.
Currently, it appears that this is due to a bug in EnergyPlus. Possible fixes
and workarounds are being investigated. We will let you know when there is a
solution to your problem.
