90.1 - Occupancy Classification of a Space #850

Supriya and Mike,

Please verify that the below condition is acceptable for the 90.1 ruleset.

Currently in CBECC-Com the Occupancy Classification of a space is set based on
the SpaceFunction. So for example, if the SpcFunc = "Hotel Guest Room" then
the OccClass = "Residential", and if the SpcFunc = "Office - Open Plan" then
the OccClass = "Nonresidential".

If a SpcFunc = "Unoccupied-Include/Exclude in Gross Floor Area" then the
default OccClass = "Nonresidential", but if the adjacent spaces have a
predominant OccClass = "Residential" then the OccClass of the space with the
SpcFunc = "Unoccupied-Include/Exclude in Gross Floor Area" is changed to
"Residential".

This means that if there is an indirectly conditioned elevator shaft with one
exterior wall and two walls adjacent to "Hotel Guest Rooms" then the exterior
wall construction assembly of the elevator shaft will be Residential.

Let me know if this approach works for the 90.1 ruleset.

Why would a space excluded from the gross floor area?
I think your assignment of residential vs. non-residential makes sense.
