Title 24 Nonres ACM - Fan Motor Efficiency #918

In the ACM, the Air Handler Cycling and Fan Schedule sections make it seem like
the supply fans are running continuously for 19 hrs per day. (This is the
OfficeHVACAvailWD schedule). Is based on a prescriptive or mandatory Standard?
This seems to be in excess of “usually occupied” as mentioned in 120.1(c)
“The minimum rate of outdoor air required by Section 120.1(b)2 shall be
supplied to each space at all times when the space is usually occupied.”

Could I alter the HVACAvail schedule to operate fewer hours to more accurately
represent the Standards? Is this done by going into the -ab file and changing
the schedules?

The building may not actually require that duration of occupancy and associated
ventilation, but the ACM Reference Manual and compliance software uses a fixed
set of schedules for each unique building type that cannot be altered.

The standard design building (the reference for comparison) uses the same
schedule, so a building will not be penalized for the fan operation required in
the model.

This can only be fixed by adjusting the HVAC schedule, which isn't allowed in
Title 24, and hasn't been.

We could consider adjusting the operating hours down for the next code cycle,
but I recommend no change.
