That's a pretty old build. You want to use this now to report bugs https://github.com/kcat/dsoal/actions/runs/1937854569#artifacts
It still clicks with this build
@kotenok2000 Just tested the demo and noticed a couple things:
Low SoundChannels (Num channels in-game) like 8 results in more frequent noises and glitching so it seems 64 is the best it can do, so you should try sources=128
or maybe more in alsoft.ini just to be safe. Also it seems that reducing period_size in alsoft.ini to something low like 64 fixes the clicks, while high values like 8192 make it a lot worse.
Sounds above sound like they're below and viceversa. So you'll need the most recent OpenAL Soft which supports reversing the Y-axis by adding this to alsoft.ini:
[game_compat]
reverse-y=true
Realtime effects adds some reverb but causes a crash after some time. So set SoundDSP = 0
in preferences.txt to fix.

Hardware3d Sound causes a crash if it's disabled and DSOAL/Alchemy are installed. So set SoundHW3D = 1
in preferences.txt to fix.

So the audio settings should look like this:
Recording: https://i.imgur.com/PeiL2Ye.mp4 Drop-in package: DarwiniaDSOAL.zip
Longer, higher quality video with some gameplay: https://youtu.be/uquZ7lUdYA0
On a side note, just read the game's been remastered in an update that adds 3D audio so it probably works better right out of the box https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1500/view/6150237114786411070
