a few negation tests #156

I think there was an issue with the test - you can see the commit I pushed to fix it (79cdcf9).

I think we should consider converting as many tests as possible to allow the expected and actual values to be represented by the system syntax. That would make creating and maintaining the tests significantly easier. What do you think?
